Redskins 2019 Roster Projections

As we are in the wee morning hours of NFL "Cut" Day, we all know this is a day that will change the lives of many men across the league. Both Sharod aka The Originator and I mapped out our projected Redskins roster for the season below.

CWall's 53 man projected roster:

Quarterback

  1. Case Keenum

  2. Dwayne Haskins Jr

  3. Colt McCoy

I’ve always been an advocate for carrying three quarterbacks. After last year’s debacle of injuries at the position, going with three would be a wise decision.

Running Back

  1. Adrian Peterson

  2. Derrius Guice

  3. Chris Thompson

  4. Samaje Perine

I REALLY like Craig Reynolds. I have been continuously impressed with him during camp and the preseason. However, I think he lands on the practice squad.

Wide Receiver

  1. Trey Quinn

  2. Terry McLaurin

  3. Cam Sims

  4. Robert Davis

  5. Josh Doctson

  6. Paul Richardson

This position has completely stressed me out. If I could keep all of them, seriously I would. I have to be honest and say after Thursday night’s last preseason game, it would not surprise me if Cam Sims did not make it and Steven Sims did. Cam had a remarkable camp and a solid preseason so perhaps the three drops in the last game will not impact his chances. Gruden said after Thursday night’s contest that he “seriously doubts” they will carry 7 WRs. Looks like the number stays at 6. Any of the remaining WRs are prime candidates for the practice squad.

Offensive Line

  1. Morgan Moses

  2. Donald Penn

  3. Chase Roullier

  4. Brandon Scherff

  5. Ereck Flowers

  6. Wes Martin

  7. Geron Christian Sr.

  8. Tony Bergstrom

  9. Ross Pierschbacher

I want to add Trent Williams but I will stick to who participated in camp and the preseason.

Tight End

  1. Jordan Reed

  2. Vernon Davis

  3. Jeremy Sprinkle

Defensive Line

  1. Matt Ioannidis

  2. Jonathan Allen

  3. Daron Payne

  4. Tim Settle

  5. Caleb Brantley

  6. Ryan Bee

The team usually keeps 6 here so I think Ryan Bee makes it.

Linebacker

  1. Ryan Kerrigan

  2. Montez Sweat

  3. Ryan Anderson

  4. Cassanova McKinzy

  5. Jon Bostic

  6. Shaun Dion-Hamilton

  7. Josh Harvey-Clemens

  8. Cole Holcomb

Cornerback

  1. Josh Norman

  2. Quinton Dunbar

  3. Jimmy Moreland

  4. Fabian Moreau

  5. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

  6. Greg Stroman

I have been a big fan of Adonis Alexander. I just don’t think he’s done enough to land a spot on the roster. Grant it, he’s been injured much of the time. He’s a prime candidate for the practice team.

Safety

  1. Landon Collins

  2. Monte Nicholson

  3. Deshazor Everett

  4. Troy Apke

  5. Jeremy Reaves

Reaves has been consistent all throughout camp and preseason. I think he makes it.

Punter

  1. Tress Way

Kicker

  1. Dustin Hopkins

Long-snapper

  1. Nick Sundberg

The Originator’s 53 man projected roster:

Quarterback

  1. Case Keenum

  2. Dwayne Haskins Jr

  3. Colt McCoy

Offensive Line

  1. Trent Williams

  2. Morgan Moses

  3. Donald Penn

  4. Chase Roullier

  5. Brandon Scherff

  6. Ereck Flowers

  7. Wes Martin

  8. Geron Christian Sr.

  9. Ross Pierschbacher

They may only keep 9, but Gruden loves Bergstrom. Pierschbacher may end up on the practice squad as a result. I say run with the young gunner.

Running Back

  1. Adrian Peterson

  2. Derrius Guice

  3. Chris Thompson

  4. Samaje Perine

  5. Byron Marshall

They almost have to keep 5 here, then deactivate Perine on game days. The coaching staff loves Perine and Marshall. Marshall returns kicks and plays special teams, so that may be his saving grace because he was underwhelming in camp and in preseason. If it was up to me, he would be looking for another squad to pick up with.

Tight End

  1. Jordan Reed

  2. Vernon Davis

  3. Jeremy Sprinkle

Wide Receiver

  1. Trey Quinn

  2. Terry McLaurin

  3. Cam Sims

  4. Robert Davis

  5. Josh Doctson

  6. Paul Richardson

Hardest one for me to cut was Darvin Kidsy, but I can’t see them keeping 7. I don’t anticipate them just releasing Doctson, albeit we have done worse to better players. Robert Davis makes it because he also plays special teams and contributes.

Defensive Line

  1. Matt Ioannidis

  2. Jonathan Allen

  3. Daron Payne

  4. Tim Settle

  5. Caleb Brantley

  6. Ryan Bee

There’s not a lot of depth here. Ryan Bee may make it by default. Expect to see Ryan Kerrigan get increased reps with his hand in the dirt at defensive end on passing downs this season which will add depth to the defensive end position.

Linebacker

  1. Ryan Kerrigan

  2. Montez Sweat

  3. Ryan Anderson

  4. Cassanova McKinzy

  5. Jon Bostic

  6. Shaun Dion-Hamilton

  7. Josh Harvey-Clemens

  8. Cole Holcomb

Defensive Backs

  1. Josh Norman

  2. Quinton Dunbar

  3. Jimmy Moreland

  4. Fabian Moreau

  5. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

  6. Adonis Alexander

  7. Landon Collins

  8. Monte Nicholson

  9. Deshazor Everett

  10. Troy Apke

I couldn’t push myself to put Greg Stroman on this list, but the Redskins love him. They may keep 7 or Adonis Alexander may be the odd man out. Alexander looks to be able to play safety too, so that could play into the final decision.
